Kanazawa City, formerly the center of Kaga Domain, is a miraculous castle town that has escaped the ravages of war for over 400 years. It is located on the coast of Honshu (Japan's main island), but on the coast, facing the Sea of Japan, in the center of Ishikawa Prefecture. The city itself can truly be called a living museum. Its charm is characterized by its walkability - with historic sites and artistic attractions accessible by foot or short taxi rides. Stroll through the teahouse district with authentic residences, where geisha culture is still alive and the atmosphere of samurai culture lingers. Visit Kenrokuen - one of Japan's three magnificent castle gardens - by day or lit up at night. On a daily basis, one can encounter traditional crafts like Kaga Yuzen dyeing, Kutani-ware pottery, urushi lacquerware, as well as a refined culinary culture.
However, this daily culture is even more dramatic during the annual "Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival," which will be held June 5 to 7, 2026. The spectacular Hyakumangoku Procession features people dressed in Edo-period costumes parading through the city streets for about four hours, creating a veritable living historic tableau vivant. At the "Kaga Yuzen Lantern Floating Ceremony," held on the evening of the first day (Friday), approximately 600 lanterns floated down the Asano River. The serenity of this event, in stark contrast to the lively procession, is deeply moving. Thanks to the Hokuriku Shinkansen, which opened in 2015, the journey from Tokyo to Kanazawa only takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

KANAZAWA TOKYU HOTEL

A Comfortable Stay with Traditional Kanazawa Atmosphere and Aesthetics
Kanazawa Tokyu Hotel is conveniently located in Kohrinbo, a shopping district in the city center. It is a 10-minute drive from JR Kanazawa Station and within walking distance of major tourist attractions. Since Kohrinbo lies along the route of the "Hyakumangoku Procession"—which runs from Kanazawa Station through the city center to Kanazawa Castle Park—you can experience the excitement and culture of the parade up close.
Kanazawa Tokyu Hotel is a 16-story building with 233 guest rooms, some of which offer panoramic views of Kenrokuen Garden and the Hakusan Mountain Range. The interior design blends the elegance of samurai culture with modern aesthetics, featuring gold leaf accents (100% of Japan's gold leaf is produced in Kanazawa) and Kutani-ware decorative elements throughout. For example, at the Deluxe Twin Kanazawa room, the shoji-style windows softly filter in natural light, and the modern Japanese design—featuring tatami mats and low beds—allows guests to relax as if they were staying at a traditional ryokan, even while in a hotel. This property offers international guests a true "Japanese experience." Floors 13 through 15 are designated as Luxury Floors, and guests staying on these floors also have access to the Club Lounge (2:00 PM-9:00 PM) on the 2nd floor. "Marais D'or, bar" known as one of the few in-hotel bars in Kanazawa, exudes a classic, sophisticated atmosphere, where analog vinyl records play choice music. The bar features a selection of cocktails made with local Ishikawa sake, as well as fine wines and whiskeys. Enjoy an aperitif during Happy Hour (5:30 PM-7:00 PM).
The Kanazawa Tokyu Hotel can also arrange private tours (English available) that allow guests to experience the true Kanazawa, while avoiding the crowds. Check-out "Kanazawa, the Ancient Capital of the Hyakumangoku Domain," with four different time-based courses tailored to your interests and travel style. Inquire by phone or at the concierge desk.
