In recent years, Japanese snow resorts have seen a dramatic surge in popularity. According to a survey by VISA WORLDWIDE JAPAN, the total number of foreign visitors during the 2024-2025 season increased by 50% compared to the previous year. Reasons cited include abundant snowfall, high-quality powder snow, and excellent après-ski offerings. Among these, Hakuba - literally meaning "white horse" - gained worldwide fame as the host of the 1998 Winter Olympics. The area boasts numerous large-scale ski resorts suitable for various ski disciplines including alpine skiing, ski jumping, cross-country skiing, and more. The majestic location, overlooking the Northern Japan Alps, is a key strength of Hakuba. Snow clouds from the Sea of Japan collide with the 9,800-foot-high mountains, depositing "JAPOW" powder snow, offering a magical-like floating sensation. Hakuba's Happo area, where restaurants, izakayas, and souvenir shops are concentrated, is popular with foreigners because it's possible to walk even when it's snowing. Additionally, guests can experience Japanese culture at small inns and lodges. With numerous musical events held throughout the village, the entire community actively enhances visitors' stays. Most visitors stay from one week to ten days. Many also take touring breaks from skiing to see the snow monkeys soaking in the hot springs at Jigokudani Monkey Park. |

Enjoy après-ski with world-class hospitality
Although it opened as a domestic ski hotel in 1959, the Hakuba Tokyu Hotel was reborn as a European-style resort hotel with international sophistication in time for the 1998 Winter Olympics. Beyond that, it has undergone further renovations in recent years, constantly striving to enhance comfort levels. The property is also known for having hosted prominent figures from Japan and abroad. The primary purpose for winter guests is skiing, and the hotel offers various services designed for skiers' convenience, including ski and snowboard rentals, shuttle bus service to five adjacent ski areas, and ski lockers on the first floor where guests can change into their gear before heading out. Guest rooms offer views of the snow-covered Northern Alps and Happo-one, while their interior design immerses guests in a forest-like ambiance. Instead of bottled water, each room provides tap water sourced from natural springs. The restaurant serves a breakfast buffet focused on locally sourced ingredients and offers French course meals featuring seasonal Nagano produce and fare. After skiing guests can relax in a bath filled with the soft, soothing waters of Hakuba Happo Onsen. It is known as one of Japan's most alkaline springs (pH 11.2) and is said to be effective for fatigue recovery, neuralgia, joint pain, muscle soreness, and cold sensitivity.
